John Mackovic received his BA in Foreign Languages at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, NC in 1965 and his M.ED. in Educational Administration from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1966. After service in the US Army, he embarked on a coaching career that spanned five decades in the sport of football. He served as head football coach at Wake Forest University, University of Illinois, University of Texas, and University of Arizona. He also was head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs from 1983-1987. During his coaching career he also formed a management training company and was a football analyst for ESPN. He joined the firm in 2009.

Mr. Mackovic was born in Barberton, Ohio. He and his wife, Phyllis, reside in La Quinta, CA. He has been recognized many times for accomplishments on and off the football field including several coach of the year honors and service organization awards. He is a member of the board for DesertArc, a non-profit organization providing services to developmentally disabled people in the Coachella Valley.
